22 Months
We have the greatest, cutest, funnest, playfulest, happiest, lovingest little boy ever!
He is getting great at letting us know what he wants.
Even though he knows how to go up and down the stairs he prefers we help him.
He often comes up to me and makes sure I look right at him smiling at me. It's so adorable and I super love his smile. It means he wants me to watch him or come with him or play with him.
He often holds one hand with the other to fold his arms for prayer time. It doesn't necessarily last through the whole thing.
He does more with the sign language he knows. For example, "more" doesn't just mean "I want more food" but it can mean "there is more _____." Like, "I have more food" or "there are more stars in this book" or "I have more toy buses."
The last couple weeks he has often had a crayon, colored pencil, pencil, or chalk in his hand. With paper, notebook, or coloring book. He loves to color! He's moved on from his adorable lightly drawn dots and lines. And he loves it when he makes a mark that resembles a letter. Every now and then I have to help him know what is okay and not okay to color on but it's not nearly the issue I thought it could be. He's a smart kid!
A couple of Saturdays ago Hot Cup brought an easel home from his trip to Ikea! Fun!
This Sunday he finally colored in nursery. Seems he's always loved coloring so it's been interesting that he just sits there during coloring time in nursery.
When he knows he's done something good and that I'm going to be proud of him, and when he's being silly, he leans forward and smiles, while walking. He's actually done this for a long time but it's been a little more often lately.
He loves long sleeves.
He's been tasting our food more. He doesn't always like it but that's okay.
We shared our guacamole and chips with him at Qdoba. And after a minute he decided he didn't really need the chip he'd dipped and licked a million times and started using a fork. He doesn't like to touch slimy avocados, but apparently I should try mashing them and giving him a utensil.
We went to the library a couple times this month. The first time he'd just take books out and put them back somewhere else; hardly looking at them and going pretty fast. The second trip he did the same some, but wasn't quite the busybody again. He seemed to have fun both times and he loves the books we bring home!
Some of the things he loves to do in the basement:
> Play with his train set. Both on the train table and on the floor.
> Make shapes and letters with crayons & colored pencils, like daddy taught us.
> Make a mess!
> Color :)

We took him to ride the carousel at the mall. He loved the carousel last summer at Ocean City but did not want to sit on a horse this time. Maybe next time.

Alphabet Cards
When my little guy was first showing interest in letters I decided to make him alphabet cards. I loved this project for the first 15 or so letters, when it was easy and fast, and I enjoyed the tougher ones too I just wish I hadn't let it drag out so long. But now, a little more than 3 months from when I started, they're finally printed!

Santa Owl
Our little boy loves owls. When I was putting away Christmas decorations a few weeks ago and he saw this Russian Santa doll he made owl sounds. He must have not noticed it before cause it was behind all the smaller dolls from inside it.
I tried to tell him it was Santa and that Santa says ho ho ho. But he just said whoo whoo whoo. So I started calling it the Santa Owl and making owl sounds too. I was putting it away and he wouldn't see it again til December anyway.

21 Months
Generally I'd say it's been the month of animal sounds and using a spoon. He was doing both before but they really took off. He does tons of animal sounds now and has mastered using a spoon.
When Hot Cup & I have cereal & milk we know he's going to be asking for bites. Well, one time I had some Cheerios & milk while he was still in his highchair from his breakfast and he took my bowl and spoon from me and ate them himself. It's funny he'd never taken his breakfast from me to do that. Breakfast is still his favorite meal of the day and he always eats every last bite of oatmeal & yogurt.
This month I also discovered he loves Kraft Mac & Cheese. I'd make mac & cheese for him back when I was making his baby food, but when he went to finger foods he didn't like touching it, and I hadn't tried in a really long time.
He still loves letters and knows all of them and can say at least half of them. His favorite letter is E.
> One day he brought this rake to me saying "E! E! E! E! E! E!" (A common reaction to the letter E.) And then, in case I needed clarification, he took a couple Es from the bananagrams bag we'd been exploring a little earlier.
He likes matching (letters, shapes, colors).
To tell us no he shakes his head. But to tell us yes, at the beginning of the month he'd make a super excited noise and expression. It was really adorable and isn't completley gone. But now he verbalizes yes. He says dey for yes. Sometimes it's more like dee or dees.
He says da referring to Hot Cup, but at 21 months he was still not saying mom.
Hot Cup taught him to throw up his hands and say yay! after getting his teeth brushed. He says it every time now and uses yay! at other times too.
He's doing great with sign language. Hot Cup helped him with please and thank you and he picked it up pretty quick. Now when we share a snack he takes the bowl away and has me sign please to get it back.
When we were at my parents' for New Year's my mom discovered that he likes to help load and unload the dishwasher. I knew he liked to take stuff from the dishwasher to play with, but it turns out he is just as happy to help. That's been fun :)
He's also great at putting toys away, not that we're very good at always having him do it. Some of them he puts away on his own.
When he thinks something is pretty neat he says oooo. We first noticed this when it was his reaction to Christmas lights.

Welcoming 2013
We celebrated the new year with my family at my parents' home. Our little guy was less accepting of not sleeping in his own bedroom than he was at Christmas, but he still did okay.
Those in my family who weren't with us New Year's Eve came on New Year's Day and we were finally all together! We hadn't seen my big sister since before Christmas so we had a little gift exchange with her. Our little guy got some nice clothes and books about Thailand added to his Christmas gift collection :)
On the January 2nd my family all came up to our house! I was really excited to see everyone again, especially before my brother and sister went back to Utah. (I really wanted to get a picture of everyone but wasn't ever thinking about it at the right time, so I'm super sad about that.)

Playroom
We decided the basement would make a fun playroom; so after Christmas we set it up for him. There's still a bunch of toys upstairs cause we can't be down there all the time. But,
he loves it down there!
We're not sure the table is in the best place since that pole is between it and the light. But it still gets quite a bit of light so we've decided it's okay for now.
