Ornaments & Sweets

The boys icing cookies!
Our kindergartner did great and did a bunch.

I helped our preschooler a lot with his first, but when he did another I only held the cookie.

After seeing my snowmen, kindergartner decided his needed faces, buttons, and scarves. He did pretty amazing with the royal icing!

Here's a sample bundle of what he gave his teachers and friends. He kept thinking of more people he wanted to give them to and ended up giving to 18 people. He's very thoughtful and put a lot of work into making them!

Here he's making the tree ornaments. He could do them pretty independently and I was very impressed. Including the one we kept for ourselves, he made 19!

During the preschool Christmas party they made graham cracker houses. My preschooler was the only one to not eat any of it and to use up every last piece of candy. When he finished I asked if he wanted to taste it and he said no. When we got home he ate all the marshmallows off and some of a candy cane. And that's all he ever ate of it. It's a pretty fun little candy covered house!

Here's this year's royal iced cookies.

The goodies we gave our neighbors this year included homemade pints of Peppermint Candy Cane Ice Cream by my amazing husband. I should have taken a picture. I've mentioned his ice cream here a lot, but in case you haven't tasted it I'll tell you - it's delicious! Everyone was really impressed!

Our ornament making kinda snowballed into a little collection this year. I wanted to make some ornaments that could be left within the reach of baby and thought the photo ornaments would be fun, and while I was at Michaels getting the wooden circles for those I thought I could get some extra for the kids to make something. So I got what they'd need to make the last 3 ornaments pictured below.

I did a nativity ornament with the nursery kids. Our preschooler was in nursery at the time, and big brother did one later.

And lastly (or first in the photos :) there's the yarn and pompom ornaments our kindergartner made for his teachers and friends.

One day our preschooler requested I make a star tree topper for our little tree (2'). I used a thick sparkly paper I had and rather than throw out the unused portions I wanted to do something with them. Without a plan, I punched as many holes out as I could. In the end I kind of love my little accidental snowflakes, perfect size for the little tree, and they look kinda nice from across the room.

With all the ornament making I couldn't leave out my baby! So he provided a handprint :)

The nativity and pompom ornaments could not be left within reach of baby (and snowflake, but he couldn't reach that tree anyway). But the rest were durable enough.
