Brothers & Smiles

This morning baby was looking at big brother and smiling so I told big brother to smile at the baby because baby wanted to smile back and he did and they spent a minute making each other smile.  And a couple hours later he did it again all on his own!  And he played with the baby's hand too.

And yesterday he put the pacifier in his baby brother's mouth.  And sat on my leg when baby was already on the other.  (When I pointed out that they were both on my lap he got up, but still!)

My toddler is a cautious little guy so it's not surprising his interactions with baby are gradual and careful. I love seeing it progress, they're super cute!

Toddler Bedroom

Two weeks ago we moved our toddler out of the nursery.  There will be a few other little things but it's pretty much done.  Here he is checking out his new digs.

It's perfect for him and he loves it.  There's a lot to love - he loves the moonlight, that the cd player is lower, the owl/moon/star curtains, and he loves his "monkey bed".

When he was in the nursery he'd always climb out of his bed and fall asleep on the floor by the door, but since he's moved into his new room he hasn't done that once, yay!

The nursery is now ready for little brother, he'll move in sometime soon.

3 Months

Our baby is about 11 pounds & 23.5 inches. He's mastered getting his thumb into his mouth and chews on it regularly.  He loves being held as much as possible, and don't mind!  He continues to be good about going to sleep himself if I lay him down when he's tired; I am both happy and sad about this.

I love my baby, he's a wonderful little guy that I completely adore!

Enjoying tummytime.

Requesting tummytime be over.

Big Brother

While our toddler doesn't shower his little brother with hugs and kisses yet, he continues to show us that he loves him.

Today we sat on the couch to watch a little Thomas the Tank Engine and I decided to take a little group picture.

Then I decided that since I'd been holding the baby for a while I could set him down and see if my toddler would cuddle with me on the couch.  But my toddler had another idea.  He put the mobile on the bouncy seat (as he always does) and then put his chair right next to the baby's to show him the turtle, frog, and snail, and to watch TV.

A bit later when I put the baby down for a nap, he took the baby a Winnie the Pooh blanket, a rattle, and placed an open book for him to look at.

And later I said how I was going to read a book to the baby he said 'no' and proceeded to read the book to the baby himself.  It's a picture book and he read it to the baby yesterday too.

I love being their mom.

September 2013

Firstborn

A few weeks ago we got the book Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site. Our toddler loves it and we've read it every day since.

When it's his turn to say the prayer, and we prompt him to say something he doesn't like, he says 'no' instead. Mostly it's just anything about sleeping.

He's figured out door knobs. He first showed me so when he came out of his bedroom about an hour after being put down for a nap. Surprisingly he hasn't used it in refusing naptime altogether, even though sometimes he's quite against it.

There's only been a few times that he hasn't taken a nap. One time he decided to take on this little diaper project. How funny!

2 words he's been saying a lot lately are 'stay' and 'play'. As in 'daddy stay' and 'play ball'.

He'll figure out how to connect any car or truck with any trailer.  Sometimes he uses several and it can get quite elaborate (see the bottom right of the four photos below for a sample :).  When he sets down his handful of cars he wants to assemble, he places them upside down so they don't roll away.  He figured out that little trick all by himself.

Here's our clever toddler giving his truck cheerio wheels, playing with blocks, reading The Friend with his dad, and playing with vehicles.

Second Born

Our baby is super adorable!  We have a lot of fun getting him to smile and coo.  He'll look at us and do that for quite a while and we love it!

He loves to stick his fist in his mouth and has even figured out sucking his thumb a couple times.

Evidently I love taking pictures during tummy time.

More from September

Our toddler loves visiting his grandparents! He feels right at home and loves chasing the cats and playing with toys.

Brothers!

Outside!
In the top middle one he's looking for the airplane he hears.
