Easter Weekend

Saturday we went to the Kite festival in DC.  There wasn't a whole lot of wind, but when it came kites went up.
Hot Cup's kite is the one at the top!
When Hot Cup assembled his kite our toddler immediately tried to take it, he loved all the kites! He even whispered the word 'kite' a few times, totally unprompted.

He also loved walking around and having a picnic.

When we'd been there almost 2.5 hours, and it was a little after his normal naptime, he started to get a little cranky and I asked if he wanted to get in his stroller for a nap and he said yes. He didn't end up sleeping but he didn't ask to get out either and seemed to be having a good time snacking and watching kites. We left about an hour later and he napped most the way home. What a fun day!

First thing Easter morning we brought our toddler downstairs to see his Easter basket. There wasn't really anything new since he went shopping with us but he loved it.  His favorite was definitely the new train.  (It's the yellow engine and yellow coal car set you see in the picture.)  Then we had him hunt for eggs which he also loved. He was delighted to find chocolate candy in some of them. He didn't care as much for the non-chocolate candy.

After church we had a wonderful time visiting our parents. Hot Cup's dad has recently moved into a assisted living place and we made our first visit. Then we visited with his mom a while and then went to my parents' for Easter Dinner. Our little guy got some fun things from his grandparents. He loves being with them but when bedtime came around he asked to go home. Smart little guy.

Sandy Point

We went to Sandy Point on Saturday.  Hot Cup hasn't had much opportunity to fly his kites this summer so we mainly went so he could do that.  He's gotten really good and it's fun to watch him fly and see the tricks he does with them. He looks good <3

We hadn't been there long when our poor guy skinned his knee.  He wanted to keep running around and didn't appreciate that I wanted to wash and bandage it.  He had fun though and even played in the sand a little.  He got upset when I took his shoes and socks off and didn't settle down until I agreed to put them back on.  He associates shoes with going outside so Hot Cup suggested that maybe he thought it meant we'd leave.  Could be.

Holden Beach 2012!

About a month ago we got back from our 2012 week at the beach. We love it there! The week goes by so fast and it's always sad to have to leave.

Our toddler had fun and did great although I believe it wore him out a bit. Monday we played in the sand and enjoyed being where the ocean waves would come up and get us wet. I have exactly zero pictures from that day. I actually don't have many pictures of him playing the whole week because I wanted to play with him instead. (But don't worry, you'll soon see I have plenty of pictures to share anyway, haha.  Half of them are courtesy of my sister Clar, thanks babe!) Another thing he enjoyed was sitting in his beach chair under the canopy with a bucket of water and his sand/water toys. And one day Hot Cup inflated his little pool and filled it with ocean water and he had fun in there, especially when his dad and aunts would be silly with him. Thursday we didn't go outside much at all cause I thought he needed a little break. And he seemed to appreciate it.

Friday morning we went out onto the pier. (Look close!  Our home is two to the left of the 2 story red one. And to the right of the 1 story pink one. We get a different house every year and we're not usually this close to the pier.)

Playing outside.

Yay for family time at the beach!

PS. On the way home we stopped at taco bell and Clar took this picture of our baby tackling a crunchwrap.

The Eastern Shore

Day 1: Ocean City

At the beach with Hot Cup's co-worker.

Our little guy got pretty tired. Here he's resting on my leg while playing hide-the-boat-behind-the-hat. He finally took a quick nap after lunch.

Joseph's kite & kite climber were a hit.  A couple lifeguards told him it was the coolest kite they'd seen.

We decided to leave the beach when it started to rain and were thankfully gone before the heavy storm came through.  The entering the ocean part of this beach trip would have to wait.

As the storm let up we enjoyed walking the boardwalk and visiting a few shops, including The Kite Loft.  Our baby was tired so I was pleasantly surprised at how much he enjoyed the rides at Trimpers.  We started with the little carousel and Hot Cup tells me he clapped at the end to express his approval.

Day 2: Assateague Island

Wild horses!

Storing unopened snacks in a beach bag is not good enough.

Looks like some of them are pregnant!

The focus on the last one is off because I had to secure my Protective Momma Grip on my baby before lifting the camera, obvs.  My little guy was excited to see them so close though!  He did his excited all-limb dance and grunts which may be a dangerous signal to give to some animals.  I think he would have gone after them if I hadn't scooped him up.  And, you know, if he wouldn't have had to crawl on sand.

We're on the beach too!

Hot Cup is out there working on his two line kite skills.

Hot Cup showed our baby the ocean.  He was nervous about it at first but Hot Cup really made the whole thing so much fun and our little guy enjoyed being with his dad.

When I held him in the ocean for a bit a wave came up that was much bigger than the rest and the splash got him in the face a little.  I don't have a very good track record of keeping our baby happy in the ocean.  Hopefully I'll redeem myself next time.  He was pretty good about it and easily consoled, but it was time to get him out of the sun.

That night he was so happy to get home and to sleep in his crib.
