6 Months!

15 lbs 2.4 oz
28 inches

Our little baby is getting so grown up! He's a natural at turning over now and does it all the time. He's also mastered the pacifier. He likes to play with it and he puts it so that he's got both the nipple and the bottom of the sheild in his mouth. He'll leave it like that for a while or go back and forth between that and having it in correctly. He switches to having it in correctly hands-free. And sometimes he does it all while talking non-stop. So cute!

He loves when he's held so that he can stand. He also likes to sit and is getting good at it, although I still use a boppy or something to support him. And when he gets tired of sitting he just leans back or to the side or rolls over to his belly.

Here is a video of when he learned that he cannot have tummy time on a verticle surface.

He loves going for walks. Everyday that weather permits we go for about 30-50 minutes and he just sits peacefully in the stroller the whole time. He looks around and will occasionally talk quietly to himself. Can I say it again? My baby is so cute!!

I put a big mirror up against the wall in his bedroom and occasionally we play in front of it. He has a great time there, he loves looking at himself and his toys in the mirror.

He's very interested in his seatbelts. In his car seat, stroller, bouncy seat, and high chair. Playing with them can keep him entertained for quite a while sometimes.

Speaking of the highchair, he hated it the first time we tried to put him in it. So he had his first bowl of rice cereal while sitting on my lap. But now he loves his highchair because it means he gets yummy food. Our little boy loves to eat from a spoon!

This is a video of the first time that he ate from a spoon. Look at his cute little tongue go :)

Turning Over

He's been able to turn over from his tummy to his back for a couple months. And this week he's been turning from his back to his tummy too! He did for the first time on Monday evening. And Tuesday morning it looked like he was going to again so I recorded it. It took about 3 minutes but this is just the last minute. Monday evening it just took a few tries.

Beach Trip 2011

Isn't this the cutest beach baby you've ever seen??

We've been back from the beach three weeks already; it felt faster than ever this year, but we had a wonderful time!

A trip to the beach isn't complete without kiting and beach games :)

It was fun to have my cousin's family there too this year. They have three adorable little boys. See how the oldest is comforting the youngest? Too cute.

Our little boy wasn't denied attention from anyone and quite enjoyed it.

Here's our little family. We're getting his baby foot imprint to make a mold with Plaster of Paris (Thanks Tara! :)

He was curious about the ocean at first. But it was completely my fault that he got upset. Luckily he's forgotten all about it and hopefully he can rediscover it next summer.

High School Era Photos

I was looking at old photos to see if I have a pic of both me & Hot Cup when we were our baby's age (I don't). And I found this gem.

I know I'm not a baby in it but all my scanned-in photos are in the same folder.
Things I love about this photo:
1. The Sound of Music
2. That I don't remember where I was or why I got my picture taken with that poster.
3. Although it was probably just because The Sound of Music is awesome.
4. My braces.
5. It kinda looks like I have hips. I'm pretty sure I didn't.
6. That purse. I wish I still had it. It may not be fashionable but it was good to me.

That was fun. I'm going to do another.

1. Yellow lens sunglasses.
2. Rafiki.
3. Ms LMC

Okay, one more.

1. Sliding down the Lincoln Memorial is awesome.
2. Hanging out with friends is awesome.
3. I did not like High School but this picture makes me miss it anyway.
4. Election Day trips to DC are awesome because there are no crowds. Or people.
5. Last I checked, recent baricades make this sort of fun impossible. Or at the very least you risk getting scolded by park police or something.
6. That purse.
7. Maybe we would have gotten scolded but it was Election Day and I'm not sure there were any park police around.
8. My Mustang Sally shirt.
9. Pretty much my whole outfit.

Monthly Photo Session

"How old do you think I am?"

"Don't you know?"

"Take a guess while I hold my feet."

"Did you say 5 months?"

"Yay! I will cross my feet for you!"

I've been trying to save these number stickers for future babies, but this time the phone rang in the middle of picture time ... and I answered it ... then when I returned ...

I'll hang on to it anyway.

When I take these pictures each month I've always also gotten a close up of his hands and feet. I'm not sure why but I have. This time I was having the hardest time getting a picture of his hands because they kept moving. Turns out that the trick to taking a picture of the hands of a 5 month old is to give him something to hold. Duh.

He's such a wonderful baby and it's such a joy to watch him play and grow. Here's a couple fun facts about him at 5 months:

Now that he is a natural at turning from his tummy to his back, I can't get him to stay on his tummy for more than a few minutes -- usually not for more than a few seconds. He doesn't complain about being put on his tummy, he just doesn't stay there.

His favorite toy right now is board books. Especially these about three inch ones because they are the perfect size for him. Small enough for him to handle while they are open and if it slips from his hand he can sometimes pick it back up himself.

I love him!
