Youth Celebration

My baby sister danced and sang in a Youth Celebration last weekend.  1300 youth from 7 stakes participated in the production.  We went to the Saturday afternoon performance and had a wonderful time.  It was amazing!  Here's my adorable sister.

15 Months

21.3 lbs
33.3 inches

He learned to walk this month!  He's gotten really good at it.  He still ends up crawling, especially when he's trying to go really fast, but he's getting pretty fast on his feet too :)

He loves to smile and laugh and entertain.

When he has his mind on something he can be quite insistent.

He's been big on peek-a-boo for a while but this month he went from only using a blanket, to using any object from a couch to a toy to a book to a pencil, to using his hands.  He also covers his eyes when he feels bad or sad or really wants to hide and sometimes it's hard to know whether I'm supposed to be playing peek-a-boo or not.

He loves to eat.  He loves sandwiches, burritos, pizza and pretty much anything with some sort of bread.  He loves olives and cheese.  He gets really upset when something he likes is gone.  Like yogurt or applesauce.  Pretty much every morning now he throws a fit when the yogurt gets all gone.  If I say 'last bite' then he's upset before even eating the last bite.

Have I mentioned before that he loves lids?  He loves them.  All kinds.  They are fun toys.

A few weeks ago I posted about how he'd had a rough couple of days and that we suspected it was teething.  Well it was!  He already had molars on the top but now he's also got a couple on the bottom!

His little toy train that he got for Christmas and has always loved has a car for animals that it's supposed to pull.  In the past he has removed it and only played with them separately (mostly the engine).  But now he likes them attached and whenever they separate he fusses so that we'll come fix it.  He tries to fix it himself too which can frustrate him more but I'm sure he'll get it soon.

He loves trying to get things in their spots like that.  He still needs a little help but he enjoys puzzles.  He plays with tupperwares and their lids.  And he likes me to lift him so he can take the bar from the sliding glass door in and out of it's locked position.  You get the idea.

He likes to take the clothes that I've just folded and throw them all onto the floor.  But the other day he came to do it and I put my hand on the stack of clothes so that he couldn't.  Apparently he thought I was patting the pile of clothes and so he started to pat the pile too.  Now when I fold clothes he comes and pats the piles.  Cute!

Here are a few pictures.

He got quite attached to this truck while we were at a neighbor's and didn't like having to leave it behind.

He wouldn't part with this ambulance the first day we gave it to him.  He loves it!

Happy 30th!

Hot Cup turned the BIG 3-0 on Sunday.  Happy birthday babe, love you <3

Saturday we had a celebration for him at my parents'.  In preparation for Saturday's festivities, Friday evening I put his birthday cake in the oven.  There was a violent thunderstorm going on outside and a few minutes later the electricity cut out for a few seconds.  I said "that better not happen again, I just put your cake in the oven!"  And of course it immediately did and didn't come back until Monday at about 5:30 pm.  Booooooo.  So anyway, my mom came through with a tasty angel food cake.  And my parents let us stay with them Saturday and Sunday nights.  I wish the power hadn't been out at home, but it was fun to spend a little more time with family.  My baby enjoyed himself and took his naps and went to bed without complaint.  I think that between last weekend, Gettysburg, and the Eastern Shore, he is more prepared for our bigger trips that are coming up.

My handsome husband ;)

Yesterday Hot Cup prepared a delicious Independence Day dinner for us.  He smoked a turkey breast and potato wedges and we used the turkey for thanksgiving-style sandwiches.  So good!

And we had fun in the pool.

And (back to the birthday) I finally made Hot Cup a birthday cake.  It was a Light and Lemony Cake with a lemon flavored Italian Meringue Buttercream frosting from the book Cake Love by Warren Brown.  If you've never thought about how much butter goes into a buttercream icing - don't.

Gonna Get Ma-a-arried

My sister came home for a week - yay!  While she was here we went to the temple (her 1st time :) and someone threw her a bridal shower.

While we were in the temple my baby sister took care of my baby.  They went to the visitors center and I'm told he was an angel.  I don't doubt it.  She said that when they played the audio for the Christus statue that he crawled to it from another room and sat and looked at the Christus until it was over.  Cutie.

I volunteered to bring some decorations to the shower.  For fun.
I'd wanted to try transferring prints to wood; and it worked great!
